2008 New York Auto Show Preview: Nissan Minimum on the 2009 Maxima upon official debut
Teaser images of the 2009 Nissan Maxima in advance of its official debut on Wednesday at the 2008 New York Auto Show.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the teaser images is that Nissan North America’s media relations department was not informed in advance of their release. “The marketing department sent out teaser shots to enthusiasts to get them excited about the reveal,” Nissan North America Spokesman Darryll Harrison told Inside Line on Monday. “It’s part of a marketing project that we just learned about. The goal of the teasers is to get enthusiasts energized about the launch.”
Even if you assemble the photos like a jigsaw puzzle, you can’t get a clear picture of what the redesigned Maxima will look like entirely. The images show such details as the rear end, alloy wheels, the C-pillar and angular headlights. The images include the label “4DSC,” which is said to stand for “4 Door Sports Car.”
Nissan has hinted that there will be substantial styling changes to its flagship sedan. But it is expected to continue to use the company’s VQ-Series V6, albeit with some performance upgrades. A diesel version of the Maxima is coming in 2010.
What this means to you: It’s the classic slow striptease of a vehicle, but at least you can have some fun puzzling over the details.
