McLaren-Mercedes Racing: Formula 1 Ace Lewis Hamilton Could Win a 4 Million-Dollar Car

WOKING, England — The head of McLaren-Mercedes Racing has promised Formula 1 driver Louis Hamilton an extremely rare supercar if he can win championships in 2008 and 2009, according to British tabloid The Sun. The car, a McLaren F1 LM, is one of only five built off the McLaren F1 supercar and is estimated to be worth $4 million.

Hamilton has called the F1 LM his dream car, saying he fell in love with it when he first visited McLaren at the age of 13. The car is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 that makes 670 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. The driver sits in the center of the car, while two passenger seats are actually molded into the car’s body and set behind and to the sides of the driver.

The F1 LM’s Papaya Orange exterior paint was inspired by Bruce McLaren’s Formula 1 and Can-Am cars. The incentive was offered by Ron Dennis, team principal of McLaren racing and chairman and CEO of the larger McLaren Group.

In 1999, a McLaren F1 LM set a world record for accelerating from a stop to 100 mph and back to a stop in 11.5 seconds. The record has since been beaten.

What this means to you: We knew McLaren’s competitive spirit knew few bounds, but this is one heck of a worker incentive.
